VR vs monitor gpu loading and heat?

and now sorted.

Just out of interest, Iv`e had a look at the VR stats on my GPU compared to the monitor, I have the occ rift S and a G34WQC display.

Am I right assuming the VR would use more & have a greater impact on my GPU than my monitor?

Ive done & tested my monitor under full load on game settings the cards running at 100% with a high temperature and cooling fans maxed out.
Ive then tested my VR & with the monitor running in the background, the VR is also maxed out on in game settings, yet when running the GPU is running as it should but isnt breaking a sweat, the temp of the card is well under 80 degc and the fans are just ticking over.
I would have thought with VR & monitor running both together I would assume the GPU would be working over time..
 
VR is more taxing on a GPU than flat screen ("pancake") gaming because it's rendering two separate views.
In most games the desktop window is just a mirror of the VR display and so doesn't take up much more GPU power on top of the VR view.
Some games actually render the desktop view as a separate 3D view, and they can be massive performance hogs.

It depends what game you are running - running the same game at the same settings the VR headset will be running at a higher resolution, but most VR games are designed with that in mind and to run on a broad range of hardware and are not as intensive as most flat screen games.

I have a HP G2 and with a 3080 it barely breaks a sweat in most VR specific titles, it's only stuff like sim games designed for flat panel but with an added on VR mode that tax it.

That's a very good point. All the games I have performance issues with (on a 3090!) are VR conversions of existing games.

I can't recall any dedicated VR game that has caused me any performance issues with my current hardware.
