It's not all compatible, your mobo is Socket X79, but your chip is socket LGA1155, so you either need a X79 chip or 1155 board. Personally if it's only used for gaming I would get an i5-3570k, which is just as fast as the i7 for gaming. Only get the i7 if you're doing heavy rendering/video editing or the like. Get a good Z77 mobo with it like the Asus Sabertooth or Gigabyte UD-5H.

Graphics wise I would perhaps go for a slightly better cooled card, apparently the Palit gets very noisy under load (and is a triple slot so you could run into Sli issues.) Look at the gigabyte or kfa2 cards.

I would get a modular PSU, something from Seasonic, XFX or Corsair, as they will be quieter and better generally.

You only really need 16gb of RAM if you're rendering etc, gaming 8gb is fine.

Cooler wise I would look at something like the Alpenfohn matterhorn pure or the coolermaster hyper 612s.

I assume you don't need monitor, os, peripherals etc?

Thanks, yes rendering and 3d cad is my main concern. Games come second. I wanted to leave room for sli since gpu render engines are getting better. How difficult is this as a first build?

Outside of the main budget:
I'll need a decent keyboard but not too large since desk space is valuable and I prefer low profile keys personally. I have a good mouse.

the display I'm looking at is Iiyama ProLite E2409HDS-1 24 Inch , purchased elsewhere for about £150. It seems to have good brightness, refresh and colour accuracy.

I have windows 7 already

Hi. thanks for your comments:D

Would it be better to get 8 gig of higher quality ram to begin with?

Is the wifi adaptor okay (I have a "up to" 30mb broadband connection but I have to use wifi at the moment, would a cheaper adapter do?)

Cooler okay? I was looking at the H80 since I want this PC to last but I may consider OCing the CPU some day...

Case mods, suggestions?
