What temperature should I be looking for on the VRMS on my 290?
What would be the temps where I should start to worry?

The new card I have has separate heatsinks fitted to both VRMS as well as the memory.
A loop of the render test on GPUZ running for 15 mins showed temps hitting 70c on
vrms & 85c on core.

Wondering if it's worth giving the AIO watercooler one more shot or should I just give up & run on air until next year when I get a full custom loop.

Wanna try 3rd time lucky? :p I'd go with full custom loop personally - it'll achieve the job in a much better way and look the part too.

I do want to try, but am concerned about killing another card. :D
Think a full custom loop is the best option, but that may have to wait until end of the year. Spent enough this year on this machine.

I do understand the itch, I remember getting a H80 as a start to watercooling and while I had 0 issues (other than the H80 pump would sometimes make a racket) I still wanted a full custom loop.

Hold tight, save ya monies, buy WC parts, rage a few times while putting it together then finally admire your work when it's done :)

To answer your original question, after 5 minutes of the GPUz render test (I tried for 15, but got bored!):

Card 1 - core 93C, VRM1 61C, VRM2 83C
Card 2 - core 92C, VRM1 60C, VRM2 75C

Those are both stock air cooled cards, running 975/1250 with stock fan profiles.
