Should I have this on or off in need for speed shift? If I enable vsync in a game, I was told by someone a few weeks back that I should also enable 'wait for vertical refresh' and 'OpenGL Settings/Triple buffering' in ati CCC. Is that what I have to do or is enabling vsync ingame sufficient?

Just enable it in game, if you're on Vista or windows 7 vsync does not work with the CCC anyway and triple buffering only works for opengl titles.

Thanks, I'll do that. You say it doesn't work with CCC (I do have Win 7), but by enabling it ingame, my 4870 will still take advantage of vsync, is that correct?
And vsync's job is to stop tearing is it? I'm not sure if I've ever noticed tearing, whatever it's meant to look like.

Yeah it will work in game and it will stop tearing and give a smoother experience, you will be limited by your screens refresh rate, if you screen is say 60hz your fps will be locked at a max of 60 fps.
