End of the year It'll be either a 330CI or a 530i. I need a little more time in each, not to mention it largely depends on which I feel I can get the best all round deal on, so probably the 5, although I do like the extra pace of the 3. I could buy one now I suppose, but I've got a fair chunk of extra money coming my way at the end of this year, so I figure it'd be better to wait and get a really, really, really nice one rather than a simply good one.

You'll get a better 530i than 330Ci depending on your budget - to get a truely lovely 330Ci Sport you need more than £12k, that same £12k would be an absolute minter of a fully loaded 530i Sport. Although, the 330Ci *is* quicker - but the 530i is far from slow.

Buy one, bring it to meets, park it next to mine (I *will* cry if you get yours first).

i think the future will see Variable Timing + Turbo combinations to get the most out of the displacement. for example, check out the nissan SR20VET's 8000rpm turbo capable of producing 280bhp froma 2l engine. this has the characteristics of turbos with the torque and the revvy ness of the vtech systems, maybe indicating that the neither technology is perfect and that to get the most out of an engine they should be used in conjuunction with eachy other..

the sirion x4 uses variable timing and a turbo too, JC-DET engine 713cc puts out 140 bhp :)

Foxs original review echos my thoughts on the drive I had last year of one.

Yes it was a very capable car, but it just didn't do it for me.

And from a totally non technical pov the price put me off as well, was over double the cost of my 172 (but a year newer) and tbh can't see how I could justify that. And it didn't have aircon. And the seat belt hook things had surface rust on them. And the gear knob was scratched/chipped/peeling to hell. Bargain for 12k.

No idea on the mpg on the CTR but the 172 has just done 400 miles on a tank which I was surprised at, 41.1mpg average according to trip comp.

I normally average <200 miles on a full tank. Only once have I ever got anything resembling decent economy and that was on a run back from Newcastle where I sat at a steady 90 and got 300+miles.

But then again, I didn't buy it for economy :D

To be fair, thats not exactly a normal week, it was 400 miles motorway driving taking it relatively easy :)

usually get 300 to a tank.
