Experienced a weird one today.. on one of our old networks there's pretty much no VTP configuration, its a mess. VTP servers all over the place, different domains etc etc.
Now I needed to put a trunk in between part of this old network and the new so before I configured that I decided to change that particular switch to transparent mode. Did that, checked the vlans were still all there (which they were). Couple mins later I hear that everything connected to that switch is no longer working, boxes can't be pinged and the users on that switch can't get to anything. Checked the vlans were still there which they were, decided to revert back to VTP client mode and then everythings working again.
Anyone seen that happen before? Completely baffled me as even though the switch still knew about all the vlans it was as if it had lost them and didn't know what to do.
