Hey guys,

I have just bought one of these:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-147-OK

I am a bit worried about the temps. My 5830 temps were always very low. This one seems to idle between 55c and 60c.

Some games push it to 81c under load. Is this OK? I think once I even saw it at 85c. This is the temps I am viewing using the ATi tools Graphics Overdrive. I have not overclocked the card, I was just using the page to view temps.

Thanks for any help.

Load temps are fine, so are idle, just not very low - some coolers will vary on how well they can perform. Nothing to worry about.

What case do you have?
Does it have bad airflow?

Ive just installed the frozr III 6950 into my 800D which isnt ideal air cooling.

I'm, getting 40c at idle with auto fan speed and 55c-58c at load with 55% fans.

wierd how different coolers and cards make a difference and perhaps cases.
I had a similar card to the OP and mine got up to 86C with a burn in test.
Had to send it back and looking to get something different.

86c under load is ok, nothing wrong with that temp, certainly no reason to return.

ahh ya return was because it would crash in games (was bought from a different store) - ya was a 6970 pcs+ and even tried downclocking it from 940- all the way to 830 and it would still crash.

Unlucky there mate, was that the powercolor one, they used to produce decent cards with good cooling solutions but recently they seem less popular here.:)

ya it was that one - sad thing was is I bought it in the states when I was back home and didnt test it till I came here - so shipping cost a bit to rma it.

card would have been nice if it would have worked (the cooler was pretty solid etc).

I have the VTX 6950 2GB with stock cooler(older) model, it was 50s at idle and 85-86C at load when furmark and OCCT, but gaming was lower than that around 70-75C.
Coming from a Gigabyte GTX460 1GB(30C Idle and never reaching 50 at load when benching) that was too hot for me even if ATI says it is safe :)
SO I put it under water :)
