Has anyone noticed lately that the vue are now performing bag checks when you go in to watch a film? I presume it's to stop people smuggling in sweets in an attempt to sell more of their outrageously priced sweets, it's completley ridiculous really. Seems they don't realise you can just use your pockets either. :p

You can refuse to have it searched, but then they can refuse you entry and refund your ticket.

No, it's to stop people smuggling recording equipment in. I had a bag full of sweets that were obviously just bought from Tescos and they didn't care :)

Went to the Vue in Portsmouth on Friday...didn't see them checking anyone. I do like to take a bottle of coke in with my rather than buy a £4 one at the cinema :D

Ironically it's the cinema staff that release most of the high quality telecine and dvd screener torrents.

your allowed to take your own food in aslong as it wont stink the place out like a mcdonalds or something.

they were prob checking for cameras as others have said

I was under the impression that they can't search you unless they have security personel or police with them.

I remember when I was a teenager, I went in to my local newsagent and left to go to the supermarket (as whatever I was buying was cheaper there). The manager of the newsagent ran out and grabbed me from behind and ordered me back in the store. He then took me and my friend in to the side room and searched us - told us to remove our coats and he patted them down etc.

Of course he found nothing and I went home and told my parents who went ballistic. We later found out he was not allowed to carry out this search without either security or a police officer present.

Thinking about it we got a £50 cheque each out of it as a good will gesture though, never bought anything from there since though!

Just take a semi-transparent bag, me and my mate go to Sainsburies before going to Vue and get load's of food for a couple of quid. I tend to Pay at the part that sells food and get through.

Not been checked really however we're cautious.

I think he means Telesync.

No I did mean telecine, you can find a lot of telecine releases on torrent websites that cinema staff have created. Not so popular now though as screeners are becomming more and more common.

And yes the cinema staff also create almost all telesync releases. Cam releases created by cinema goers are pretty much dead online.

Legally, security 'personnel' can't touch you, they can't stop you, they pretty much can't make you do anything. They're there as a deterrent. They can 'arrest' you in the same way I could and call the police, but the risk of being sued for assault, false imprisonment and false accusations is overwhelming.

The search is optional, with your permission, but refuse and they may refuse you entry. Exactly the same at the airport, you don't *have* to be searched, but refuse, and you'll be refused flight.

My friend who works at Vue has informed me the recent bag searches are a temporary security measure, with the Bond film being released here before anyone else.
