VW Beta radio in Mk4 Polo

Have bought myself the VW Beta headunit and have connected it to my Mk 4 Polo. Now have a couple of problems!

1. Only way to make the stereo work is to turn on the ignition.
2. It then requires security code to be entered. This is fine as I have it. But when you take key out of the ignition it requires the code to be entered again next time!
3. When driving, the radio will switch off after one hour!

It does seem as though there is a mix up with ignition wire and perm power wire. However I have switched these both over and still no joy

Is it that I can't put the Beta into a mk4 polo? Do I have a faulty radio? Or is my wiring simply wrong?!

Please help!! Many thanks in ad :)

Yep, your ignition live and constant live are the wrong way around.

Perhaps they need to be bridged (thats what I had to do in my Leon, has a VAG loom). I ended up just connecting the constant live to both, rather than the ignition live to anything.

Thanks for the reply, but as i stated in my op i've already tried switching the two wires over and it didn't help.

As for your solution, would that mean the radio would be on constantly, i.e you wouldn't need to turn the ignition on?

As strange as it sounds, mine still won't come on without the ignition on, but doesn't lose its memory. I came to the conclusion that VAG wiring looms = poo!

Hell, my remote central locking was wired into the standard headunit, that caused me a few hours of grief too.

I've just disconnected the ignition feed to the radio and connected the 12v battery feed to both terminals. The radio now operates with the ignition off but apparently it will operate for an hour after the ignition is switched off anyway, so will see what happens in an hour :p Don't spose you could get a pic of your wiring for me? ;)
