Hi,
I'd like to buy a remapped Van (but also a stylish one ), or a standard one and then remap and all the lifting on top of it.
There are two 2.0 TDI engines for the Caddy 2015-2019, but it doesn't matter now, they appear to be the same, just limited to make some money on the one with higher specs...
I've seen a few sellers, like wolfsburgvans and racechip, but they are both very different:
1. Wolfsburgvans offers stage 1 from 100 to 180 HP, sounds a bigger gain that usually advertised with stage 1 remap, and these are the Vans that they sell directly, it can't be an issue with a calculator, like the one below
2. Racechip offers much less, like 30 HP in addition for your Van, supposedly stage 1, they don't mention it.
How comes that the numbers differ so much?
Apart from that, I need to keep the Van for as long as possible, I do max 8k miles per years, commonly 5k, so I wish to keep a Van of around 5y old for another 15 , so probably I won't be buying something with more than 70k mileage, but I've seen that those engines last way more than 200k miles, even remapped as long as you drive quite 99% of the time, so I could stretch and save some money with higher mileage, which is also common for Vans...
I could ruin the engine and the exhauster more if I keep driving just to the supermarket , with cold engine twice a week as I'm planning to do, so I'm not concerned about the remap longevity on the engine... (+ occasional long travels, average once a month)
Yes, I'm aware of the maintenance cost, but can a VW official dealer service the Van later on? With stage 1 surely, but what about stage 2 and a few components replaced like intercooler and exhauster? (those are the most common one as I've seen)
The insurance is a big question mark, I have no idea how much I should be paying and IF I FIND AN INSURER, here I pay 550 for a comprehensive + every possible add-on, 5y no accidents on a 1.6 TDI estate worth 11k.
Regarding DFP issues, the modern system that cleans itself up with fuel injected into the exhauster should be just fine, moreover I would wonder if Adblue interfers, it seems that all the Vans after 2015 have it.
Generally, it's better to buy a Van and then remap it, so you can get an idea on what it was used for before the purchase.
The ready-made Van offered by Wolfsburgvans is maybe cool but not exactly on the safe spot, those Vans may have been used for work and literally smashed inside, lifespan cut in half.
(I'm not accusing them, it's just the way it is)
