Hi,
Friends of mine have just bought a 57plate VW Passat, and they're having trouble connecting the Iphone 4 to the cars Bluetooth. My SGS2 will connect no problem. They've called the garage where they bought it from, and they said they have to charge £300 to 'upgrade' the VW software so that it will recognise the iPhone. Sounds like a pile of rubbish to me. Does anyone know what they can do other than spending £300?
Thanks

I think it's down to the iPhone and rSAP if I recall correctly.

The iPhone only uses rSAP and the older bluetooth kits don't support it.
Many other phones, SG2 included, support other bluetooth methods.

OK thanks. Thought it might have something to do with the way iPhone uses Bluetooth. Are there no third party devices such as a cradle or something which would allow use of the phone in the car?
Thanks

It is the other way round, the iPhone doesn't support rsap and the early VW kits only supported this limiting what phones could be used. The £300 quote sounds like they are swapping the Bluetooth module to the new one that supports rsap and standard Bluetooth. You can get these cheaper on eBay and I think it will be plug and play as the car is already coded for Bluetooth. The module should be under the drivers seat.

Bear in mind that if the car has a Red Highline display, the newer bluetooth modules only work with the white highline display.
