Hey all,

I recently got a new company car - A VW Polo - It has "BlueMotion Technology".

It automatically stops the engine every time I come to a stop, and automatically starts it up when I want to pull away. I can turn it off this feature by pressing a button on the dash, but every time I start the car the Auto Start-Stop defaults back to on.

Is there any way to turn off this feature permanently?

Many thanks,
Marky

Find a man with an VAGCOM cable and a bit of know-how, slip him a fiver and ask him to poke around and see if he can change the default.

As its a company car I personally wouldn't be doing that though. Just press the button as part of the start up routine. Seatbelt on, engine on, press button.

Ahh fair enough... Thought it would be as simple as a setting I've missed on the dashboard - Don't think I should be tickering with it "internally" :p

Any particular reason why you need to turn it off? Not tried a VW with it, but in my experience with a Mini (same system as BMW), it just works without issue.

I'm just not used to it and don't like it :p I'm sure I'll get used to it though!

You cant turn it off by default as the car tax is worked out on it being a working feature for emissions. As above either get someone to code it to default off. Or just push the button to turn it off after starting the car (which is what I do).

I guess that's fair enough... As you said, I'll just make it part of my routine, or forget about it and get used to it :p

You might have an option in the infotainment system settings to have it default to off

I'm pretty sure I've checked every setting - Think it has to be played with internally unfortunately.

you'll get used to it, it can be annoying when you first get stop start in a car but after a while its nothing, although i do find myself planning on moving off etc a little earlier. Theres usually something you can do (ie slightly raise the clutch) to restart the engine without actually moving off.

It is an unusual feeling when you sit there at a traffic light and you suddenly feel no more vibration from the engine :p
I did have a moment yesterday where it wouldn't start up again - But I didn't know how it worked at that point (I only got it yesterday) :p

Not sure what there is to get used to? On the Mini it required no changes to driving technique, as it worked with things you *should* naturally do anyway i.e.

1. Stop at traffic lights or in traffic.
2. "A Pause becomes a wait - so put on the handbrake"
3. Take out of gear and release clutch - engine stops
4. Soon as lights start to change, or traffic resumes - depress clutch, engine starts, select gear
5. Release handbrake and pull away

Do you put the handbrake on every time you stop at a traffic light? Ain't no one got that for dat! :p
Not sure what happened yesterday when it wouldn't start back up for me - Maybe I actually stalled it haha :D

The constant feeling that you've somehow stalled it is, I imagine, the biggest stumbling block. :p

Or the subconscious feeling that you need to start the engine.

Haha this is it - I love how quiet it is, but I don't like feeling the engine "stall" :D
