My sister will be getting a new car in the next few months and i have the option if buying her Polo from her.

It's a 3 door 1.4 SE, 55 plate in black, 60k miles, electric windows, air con, alloys etc. 90% of her journeys are on motorway to and from work. It will be about £3.5k.

Good, bad or ugly?

How much will you use the car and predominantly where?

I expecting to use it to drive to my dad's once or twice a week, it's 30 miles each way. Not using it to go to work. I live close to town so I normally walk there.

Anything with a VW badge is normally not good value. 3.5k seems cheap for a 55 plate Polo?

Parker has it at £4k for a good conndition one, £3.1 for a bad condition one. That's now in time, so with family discount and a few months from now with her putting one another couple of k on the clock, I said £3.5k.

So what are you saying? £3.5k is cheap for a polo, yet its not good value? I am confused.

I'm saying it should be more than £3.5 for the reason I stated, VWs normally hold value better.

It is, about £4,000 according to Parker for a private sale and possibly £5,000+ for dealer.

And what reason did you state?

The reason I stated is that they are not normally good value, ie inflated prices compared to other brands due to perceived quality and reliability. But yes 4k seems about the right price for a run of the mill Polo. I thought they would be more expensive for some reason.
