VW Polo tyre pressures

Hey all

I have a VW Polo TDi Sport (1.9 Diesel) 2003 plate and am having trouble finding the correct tyre pressures.

Seems very silly but they are not in the manual and no-where I can see on the car.

Or failing that, under the car, between the exhaust and heat shield.

I'd just stick 35 in the front, 30 in the back. Job done.

Gods, i dont think i have ever seen a car needing that much pressure in it's front tyres! I would have thought more like 30/28 F/R for normal running around, possibly 32/30 for fully laden trips.

i don't trust my filler cap. It says 32/38 F/R with a full tank, seems a bit extreme when the tank is only like 40-45L

He's not far off for some cars. Mine has 36 front and 33 rear. I think his gap between front and rear are a little too much but 35 isn't that high for some cars.

TBH I would trust the pressures supplied by the car maker its not as if they just make them up. You can't really guess the pressures unless you know the tyre size, I would expect it having low profile tyres so Bug One is probaly spot on however VW recommend on my car 35psi front and back. The car is not as sharp in the corners with less psi.

The fact yours is a VW means you will have your tyre pressures on the inside of your petrol cap/flap as mine is a 53 plate Golf and this is where mine are.

The pressure Golf give though tend to be in BAR not PSI so you'll need to convert them.

Mine look something like 2.5, 2.3 F/R

Use a convertor like this one to adjust... http://www.centauro-owners.com/articles/psibar.html

In that case I apologise to Bugone.

I was thinking 32/30 F/R would be about right. I'll try a few different ones.

Don't try to guess what the pressure should be. Are you sure it's not on the inside of the filler cap?, it has been on the VWs I have owned.

My car is very heavy at the front and very light at the rear. If I put 30 in the fronts of mine, I'd have quite a bulge at the sides.

It depends a lot on what tyres you have. I'm sure they're not the same as the ones that were on it when it rolled off the production line. Often tyres will have their recommended pressures on the side wall. But to be honest, most of my adjustment is done by eye. You can usually tell if the tyre pressure is right by just looking at it.

A lot of tyres have the Max pressure on the sidewalls, a friend wondered what was wrong with his Fiesta as he had put in the ''recommended'' 50psi in the tyres:)
To my eyes modern (to someone who remembers cross ply)tyres always look under inflated as they bulge slightly where they meet the road.

32psi on the front seem about right. I used to put that in on my 1.6 petrol Polo. A diesel will be heavier at the front.
38psi on the rear is probably for a fully loaded car.

Did manage to find the thing on the car and suggested 2.2/2.0 Bar F/R which equates to about 32F and 30/1R. unloaded weight.

Gonna grap a new pressure gauge from halfords after work for an accurate measure and pump them to that when they have gone cold.

Thanks for all the help folks.
