VW Up! GT/GTI

Hi,

Does anyone know much about this car or if it will even exist? It sounds perfect little car; fairly fast, light, nimble and cheap.

Is anyone else interested in such a car?

They were only planning to make a GT (not a GTi) and this has been put on hold indefinately for the usual budgetary/marketing reasons of not being viable, according to Car Magazine.

Be suprised if it ever saw the light, and if it did, it'll be little more than a "stick bigger wheels, lower by 5mm, add a few bhp and slap a badge on it" effort.

Surely the new VW Polo R/Audi S1 is the car you'd be looking for in this category? I appreciate these are a tad bigger than the Up! and a bit more expensive but still.

Up to 250bhp (probably closer to 230 or so?) and AWD in a car the size of a shoe....sounds like fun to me

God why would they?! It's a horrendous vehicle!

If they did it would basically have to be a complete redesign of everything minus the body. Which should be redesigned too as it's just awful.

Isn't the new Polo the same size as the old mk4 Golf? Hardly a small car anymore.

Cause the S1 is around £25k, which is ridiculous. Same price as a more desirable Golf GTI.

I was thinking of a warm hatch that was £14k, bit like the swift sport.
