Any VW peeps on here? I dropped my mrs satnav (it's a Navigon something or other) today and the screen cracked badly. Subsequently the touch screen has stopped functioning. It came as a package with her VW UP.

Went along to VW dealership in Guildford at 4PM and was frustrated to hear the parts counter shut at 1PM and nobody could access the stock. Grrr!! It was a real 'computer says no' moment from the obvious Saturday kid working behind the desk.

So anyway - got me thinking. Are these things available in shops? What is it which makes it VW? (The logo pops up at the start - it's part of the maps and more package).

And how much might it set me back at VW?

Why the questions now? Parts staff aren't around till Tues. My mrs will want answers tomorrow! :o

Might be so - but it's still frustrating to know the stuff is on the premises but they can't give it to me.

Thanks for the links 233. Will wait till Tuesday and pop back into VW.

I have an up with one of these units. I would see how much a new one is, as the ones on ebay would likley at least need a trip to the dealer as the unit is paired with the car they are supplied with.

you will probably find that it would need to be ordered in anyway, dont tend to keep satnavs etc in stock and i would be sitting down for when they give you the price

The girl behind the desk explained they do have them but couldn't sell it to me. This particular VW dealer is the 'parts HQ' for the region. You just can't get access to them seemingly outside of office hours

And yeah - not looking forward to the price. The device itself retails for about £130 - it's a Navigon 70/71. But buying it elsewhere won't give me the VW software which reads off trip meter, radio and all that other fancy stuff. Will let you know but I'm reckoning @ £400 since it that's what the 'maps and more' package retails for IIRC.

Take a look on some VW forums. There is bound to be someone that can encode a non-VW Navigon for you, so that it's exactly like a VW supplied unit.

Be careful with Navigon software - I had their 4350Max and whilst it was excellent, I attempted to add the new Euro maps version outside of their "Fresh" software and completely buggered it up. Resulted in a colossal fight with Halford (over their mis-selling of traffic & map updates) to get a replacement. Although Navigon's service was great, the lesson learnt was never to interfere with proprietary software... Especially when it involves Halfrauds' legendary customer services!

Just in case anyone is interested - I was quoted £330 today by Colbornes. Apparently you don't need to pair it with the car. Just rock up, make the purchase then plug it in.

That's a stonking amount of $$$ for a mediocre-at-best satnav. But then it was to be expected.

That seems very daft. Something that can sell for circa £200 on ebay that, lets say, half of VW UP!s and maybe a smaller proportion of Mii and Citigo's have most likely stowed in the glove box... and it isn't coded to the car. I wonder how much VW charge for replacement side windows? :o

Domo I see that you are in Surrey. So it might be worth also trying Beadles in Sevenoaks as I have used Colbournes in the past and found them more expensive than other VW Dealers.
