First off, I have read this thread here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18095710

None of the information was helpful. I have a new dual link DVI-D cable. This problem has occurred for me before, but then I just had to turn it on and off (and these lines only appeared when loading a new graphics engine after playing a different game, and it only happened with me from the Source to Quake 3 engine).

My graphics card is a Radeon HD 4890. It has worked fine with this same monitor before. In fact, my whole PC was working fine with it. I have not installed the viewsonic drivers for this monitor, as I have never needed before (I have used it for 6 months, I just moved back home for summer holidays, and this appeared now).

what lines ?
what source to quake engine ?
seriously apart from the headline nothing much makes sense.
btw chances are pretty high that you will need to install the monitors drivers to get 120hz.

The exact same lines as in the screenshots provided in the thread I've linked in the beginning. I have the same problem.

Source and Quake (well, it's actually called id tech 3, but it doesn't matter what you call it as long as the point gets across) are the names of game engines made by Valve and id Software respectively. I just meant if I had played a game on the Source engine, and then had to play a game on the Quake engine, I would always get the same lines when first loading the Quake engine, but just had to turn on and off my monitor for it to work. It was just to illustrate what I meant, but apparently it obfuscated the point.

It worked perfectly fine WITHOUT installing any drivers before, so I shouldn't really have to install them (but regardless of that, I did try the option anyways to no avail).

I have tested with 2 different VGA cables with DVI adapters, along with 2 different dual link DVI-D cables. I have tested the monitor on two different PCs, with different GPUs (one was nvidia [gtx280], the other ati [hd 4890]) and mobos. Both PCs had the same problem.

Here is a more detailed explanation:

I have had the vx2268wm monitor for about 4 months time now. At first, I had no problems with it, although I did notice some strange behavior: if I played a game using the Source game engine, and then right after I loaded up the id tech 3 (quake 3) game engine, then I would get vertical lines every other pixel. Here are screenshots, not taken by me, but I found someone with the same problem who had uploaded them:

Basically the problem was that I had a dark, vertical line at one pixel intervals. This I could solve by turning my monitor off and then back on.

A little while after, I added a second monitor (not 120hz) and had a dual monitor set-up with extended desktops. After doing this, I no longer had this problem when loading various game engines after another, and so the problem didn't exist anymore.

However, after removing the second monitor, I now receive this problem every time I try to put my refresh rate above 60 hz. One possibility is that I might have removed the cable I used for my vx2268wm when removing the second monitor (as I packed up everything, including the cables used for my main monitor), and so I thought cables could be a problem. At this point, it should be worth noting that this monitor is stated to "require" a dual link DVI-D cable, but I had ALWAYS used a VGA cable with a DVI-D adapter. I cannot recall the reason for doing this, but I have a slight feeling it was 'cause I had some problems with the DVI-D cable that came with the monitor.

At first I thought the cable would be the problem, so I bought a new dual link DVI-D cable, but that did not work. When I plug in a VGA cable with a DVI-D adapter now, I cannot select a refresh rate above 60 hz (which is weird, because as I said, I used a VGA cable for about 3 months with 120hz), and when I can select 120hz with the dual link DVI-D cable, I get the above problem.

I have tested this with 2 different VGA cables that have had 4 different DVI-D adapters. I have also tested with 2 different DVI-D cables, one of which was completely new. I have also tested the monitor on two different computers, one which has an nvidia card, the GTX280, and the other an ATI card, the HD 4890. The latter is mine, and the former a friend's who I tested it with. The same problem occured for both. We both have Windows 7, but I have the 32-bit version and he has the 64-bit.

If I had this problem when the monitor first arrived, then I would instantly say it was a defect monitor, however since it worked for 3 months, and there has been no change except for the removal of a second monitor and possibly the original cable (well, I don't think it was 'original' in the sense that it came along with the monitor, but I do not recall properly, so cannot give a certain answer). Another weird thing is that the first time I started up after removing my 2nd monitor and while using a VGA cable, I could select 120hz, but it didn't work. After changing cables to try something that didn't work, I put the same VGA cable back in, and this time I could not select higher than 60hz, and I never have been able to with VGA cables after this (about 3 days ago). I doubt that there is a special kind of VGA cable that the monitor only works with, especially given that it's supposed to require dual link DVI-D cables, but this is why I'm posting this here.

Are there not anyone who can give any insights?
