Hey folks,

I've been having this BSOD fairly often and its starting to get annoying. I've not noticed any patterns to what causes it. Another issue is that when it gets the bsod it doesn't write a dump file and so I've no idea whats up?

I did the free upgrade to W10 from W8 when it came out and all seemed to go ok, the main system disk is an SSD but also have a 1tb WD hdd for storage. Any suggestions? I've checked the disks, virus checked and checked the memory and have run out of ideas!

Help!

Have you ran a check on the OS files?

right click on CMD.exe and go to run as admin. Once command prompt is up type sfc /scannow and let it check for any issues.

If it finds issues and cannot repair them do the same again but try it in safe mode.

Could always try a os reset which resets the os but doesn't touch any personal files etc or if your can do a clean install if w10 using their USB creation tool.

Does an OS reset mean you lose all your installed programs etc? Also can you do a clean install of Windows 10 if you upgraded? Do I just download the right image to a USB and the old Windows 8 serial key will work?

Windows 10 is activated by hardware id and will activate once back online, can skip the stages when it asks for a product key. I think there is a option to just reset the os settings so doesn't touch installed programs or personal files.

When creating the USB stick using the tool make sure you select the right version and either 32 bit or 64 bit

Yeah, you just need to download the media creation tool, skip the product key when asked and it'll auto-detect your key when it's finished. I can't remember if you need to tie your account to an MS account, but it can't hurt before you reinstall just to be safe.

No need for a MS account, I am currently on W7 but have used 10. If I wish to re install 10 all I need to do is download the W10 tool and select the OS.

once done reboot the PC, boot from USB stick and then skip when asked for product key then once its on the net it activates from the mobo ID
