Need to order some new machines in at work. Sadly the account is with Dell and Dell will only supply Windows 10 X64. I'm told work needs X86 due to the software they are using.

I've tested on a random faulty machine that was Windows 8 Pro, installed Windows 10 Pro X64 and it activated. Then formatted it and did a reinstall of Windows 10 X86 and it also activated.

So it worked on this random unit here but unsure for when we order the new ones. Dell is not being very helpful. All they said is is downgrade it and that's all they are saying.

So can it be done? I've both the official ISO's for X64 and X86

Help please ...

I know this can be done on windows 7, had 32 bit originally but then upgraded memory, formatted with x64 and activated with the same key.

seems like you can do the same as your test seems to have worked. I'm sure if I wanted I can format my PC and install 32 bit OS on which has had windows 10 64 bit on before.

I think all MS care about is that the key is valid.

As above the key is valid for the version and edition of windows but covers both 32 and 64 bit.

Doesn't it ask you on install which you want to install?

In the past I have accidentally installed and activated various windows in 32 bit without issue.
