From bits I've found googling I think what I'm proposing to do is possible but I was hoping there might be some experience on here.

I'm setting up a PC for a family member (new build) and would like to get as much setup done at home before taking it to them. I've got a retail key so no transfer issues there.

What I don't want to do is get my Microsoft account muddled into the mix, so I was going to install W11 using the shift+f10/bypassnro approach and then convert the local account to a Microsoft one when I hand the machine over.

Any reason not to do this or any reason I can't?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you can do that, you just activate it normally without ever entering any of your own details and when the new owner puts their account in, it will register it.

At OOBE press CTRL+SHFT+F3 to enter audit mode. Install apps, drivers and updates, rename or create a local admin account. A restart will bring you back in to audit mode.

Make you sure do a clean-up of temp files, empty recycle bin etc. Once you're done customising in the Sysprep dialog select shutdown, you only need to select generalize if you want to capture an image and deploy to other computers.

Hand computer over to user and they'll be presented with a fresh OOBE (out of box experience).
