I borrowed a HDMI cable of a friend and as soon as i connected it up via the hdmi port, my w2207h power seemed to fail. The blue/orange light at the top of the screen didnt even come on.

But as soon as i switched back to vga the problem was solved. Any ideas?

Any ideas? a dud monitor? it makes no sense and i cant find anybody else with the same issue, having googled it etc. The vga works fine too so i cant see why the HDMI would fail. The monitor just dies too, if the cable was faulty or the GFX card was then it would probably display something right? When i first power it on the mobo logo comes up then the power is just killed instantly and it never comes back on....

3870X2. Shouldnt the monitor just go into sleep mode then? The power just literally dies and you have to physically remove the power lead to get it back up again.

Well I wouldn't of thought your video card would be the problem then. Maybe an email to HP explaining the fault and ask for support before RMAing it. HDMI ports on monitors do fail but the no power part of the problem is strange.

Well great news, i went to my giant retail store and it worked there, but doesnt at my house. hmmmmmmmmm very annoying.

DVI to DVI works fine on my other monitor at home, so its not the gfx as the guy at the store kept saying.

Right then i think the monitor is ok. I hooked up my other pc via DVI - HDMI convertor thingy and it works fine.

So its my gfx. Any ideas.

No they used the cable that was hooked up already to a HP computer.

Well having done some more testing, it seems that the HDMI works on the monitor, its just when its coupled with my X2 it wont work. Strange. The X2 wont let it go to its native resolution of 1680*1050 at 60Hz. 800*600 works fine etc.
