Just had this little ******* spread across our network at work, contained it to one pc but I cant seem to get the last pc sorted. I have tried to re-install windows but somehow the cd drive does not work properly in windows or in safe mode. Furthermore, I cant seem to boot from cd either. I have checked all the settings in the bios regarding boot priorities and they are all fine. In windows as well as safe mode I get told to insert a cd into the drive, although there already is a drive there. Any sugestions?

Could it be that the CD drive had actually fialed, but you weren't aware until you have tried to rebuild the PC?

I'd try another CD drive + cable first of all and see if the problem remains:)

The drive was working 100% until the virus struck. Tried the XP cd on another system and it works fine. Will try sticking another drive in it with a dif cable to see what happens.

Was the virus still messing with the system. Ran Hijack this to find a random service running which had been executed to start on boot. Got rid of it, rebooted, and it works :) Time to format and reinstall windows.
