w610i camera upside down

Got a SE W610i as a new phone for my son at christmas ... saw a good offer and the 2Mpixel camera fitted his comments that he wanted a decent camera on it. Anyway, now we've got it the camera regularily shows an upside down image. It appears that if you go back to main screen and back to camera a few times it eventually comes up the right way up but its by no means ideal!

Anyone had any experience of anything like this (googling seemed to show certain Nokia phones once had this problem) or, better, a solution!

Should have added ... the phone clearly has some orientation detection as if you rotate the phone the picture rotates so problem may be down to it getting initial orientation wrong but can't see how to control this! However, if this orientation detection is mechanical then maybe its getting stuck as just found giving phone a small tap flipped picture to correct up/down orientation!
