Problem:

Going from Vista Ultimate x64 to 7 Pro x64 via an upgrade disc (both ligit with valid licence keys).

First time round i tried to do the upgrade install, but there was a power cut  - borking both the old and upgrade installs. So i format the drive (within the 7 install wizard) and run the clean install option. all goes well and its now running nicely.

However i've gone to try and activate windows and it is being rejected as there wasn't a valid vista install present when i did the upgrade (due to the power cut corrupting it).

Is there any other way to activate my upgrade as i have both keys?

I have the vista image backed up so i could revert to that and then rerun the 7 install again, but i'd rather not if i can avoid it! However i fear this is probably the only solution.

Anyone got any ideas?

TIA

According to Microsoft:

The product key is for an upgrade version of Windows 7 and a previous version of Windows wasn't on your computer when Windows 7 was installed. To install an upgrade version of Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP must be installed on your computer. If you formatted the drive before starting the installation process, you won't be able to use the upgrade product key to activate Windows 7. To activate Windows 7, you'll need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 7. For help with the activation process, go to the Microsoft Support website.

yeah i found that before i posted - was really looking for a work-around.

Am backing up stuff i've put on W7 atm so i can revert to vista then try the upgrade again...
