W7 RAID Drivers

Hi all,

I have a P5Q Pro and am looking at setting up 2 arrays (one 0 and one 1) running RAID from the Board. The main question is: Does W7 contain decent RAID drivers for the board or will I need to find a FDD and do it the old way? I also assume there won't be too much of a general performance hit in running the 2 arrays or would a 4 port RAID card be a better option (Quad and 8GB RAM).

Any experience with this would be great

Cheers

Does W7 contain decent RAID drivers for the board

W7 will contain a recent (but not the latest) version of the ICH10R drivers, but will be fine for the installation (which it does automatically, although you are given the option to load drivers from a storage device, but not worth it as it will be done when installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager), but once done simply update it when installing the Intel Matrix Storage manage which does contain the latest drivers....

I also assume there won't be too much of a general performance hit in running the 2 arrays...

I don't think you will find any performance hit with 2 RAID setups...
would a 4 port RAID card be a better option

Don't think this is necessary when just doing RAID0/1, as the ICH10R does a decent job generally.

Well its mainly redundancy im after on my backup drives, hence wanting to stick them in RAID 1, which gives me a spare drive so I might as well RAID 0 my boot/programs drives. If I can do it from a USB stick that will save a lot of hassle. Its mainly my data I dont want to lose, while I have the very important stuff on a DVD and the original copies of my media, I loathe the idea of having to rip it all again. Would you reckon purchasing a seperate RAID card for the mirror would be beneficial?

Thanks
