Hi all whats the scam with windows seven or how to avoid issues?
As found it selling on a well known site.but some of the prices are well wide or some are getting it so cheap? W7 ultimate retail full £80-£100. when everywhere else is a lot more.
But if boxes intact ie still sealed? i know you can rewrap but dont the windows sticker on box go across the joint so you have to break to open?
Or is key gen outside on that sticker?

The boxes of Windows 7 that have do not have the serial on the outside of the box. Always buy software from a reliable source . That said there is a wide variety of pricing - Microsoft itself is usually the highest priced. OEM is obviously the cheapest but can't move puters. Always buy with a "good" (ie. Nationwide") credit card one is this offers further protection

just buy home premium, unless you need remote desktop and domain support, in which case, get pro

I've always used OEM, but then that's because most of us on this site build our own systems, so we can :)

But then it is tied to that computer forever. Most of us on this site build more than one computer that we may want to move our previously purchased OS onto! :p

Retail all the way as it gives you the most options down the line.

Hi all cheers been having a look and a great laugh at some of the sellers poor attempts to turn you over.ie no wrapper over box!etc
(I love w7 ultimate 3users £50 buy now?)

I'm looking more at full retail as upgrades not a big diff in price? and would lose my vista ultimate if i did do upgrade.as could have a dual boot for things that don't work with W7 still ie some older games.

So what/how much difference is there between HP and ultimate versions?. i know there's bit locker and few other ulti extra's.

Someone i know say's HP version will run faster than pro and pro faster than ultimate?
But would rather rely on you're input than there's? Anyway cheers all

Pro offers the following in addition to what Home Premium gives you:

Domain joining
Location aware printing
Remote Desktop
Windows XP Mode
Advanced Backup & Restore (instead of regular Back & Restore)
Group Policy Controls
Offline File Support
Encrypted File System

Ultimate offers these over Pro:

Extra Language packs
Bitlocker
AppLocker
BranchCache
Direct Boot from VHD
DirectAccess
Enterprise Search Scopes
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) enhancements**

So most home users will not want / need the extra features in either Pro or Ultimate.

Not sure about HP "running faster" per se. I'm guessing there will be a small difference as more functions may slow the system down, but I recently upgraded a machine from Pro -> Ultimate and there is no noticable difference in speed.

Many of the biggest cons you will see for Windows 7 are people selling just the key.
These are usually TechNet or MSDN keys and will work just fine.
However the original owner is certainly not allowed to resell them and if found to be resold there is always the chance MS will revoke them in the future.

Buy retail and from a reliable source.
It's worth the extra cash.

Cheers it was that i just kept seeing them coming up for odd prices and ie sealed/unused/full/retail etc and was wondering if they are indeed sealed as regards cellophane with tag on top of box unbroken as if i right you can't access disc's/codes without breaking it? are they ok to buy or has there been a load of stolen copies or counterfit one's etc

Some are blantant dodgey deals and are laughable.

The retail version of Home Premium I got when pre-order prices were around, had a label on the top of the DVD case. That I think got ripped down the centre when case was opened.

Label on top next to DVD case hinge

Not sure if able to sneakily open case slightly at bottom and use tweezers to pull out serial number card. But would need to replace vacuum wrap on cardboard outer slip box.

Hi yes bane that was what i was thinking about.i did check to see if they had sticker on top that looked intact and can see that it has a perferrated design to make it open like that! Did also look to see what vacuum wrap was like as MS do it in a certain way.with a few little ones init.
And other's that try to reseal will proberly only have shrink wrap.
