W8.1 Explorer Folder Help Needed

I installed W8.1 a couple of days ago and it's running fine. However, in the navigation pane in explorer is there an option to stop explorer showing the folders in that directory underneath it and just showing them in the right pane? This happens on W7 but I can't seem to find a setting to stop it, I just want to click on the dir in the nav pane and see the folders in the right pane. Hope this makes sense!

Not sure on Win8 but in Win7 you had to hold the 'alt' key to be able to see the normal menu and then 'tools', 'folder options...'

In there there where two tick boxes to control how the 'Navigation pane' works.

Sorted now. I had Classic Shell installed so removed it and the problem has gone.
