W8 upgrade from W7 Question/help

Ok sometime ago I upgraded my 3 computers to W8Pro.

All running well, but one of the computers I want to build a new system for.

The w8 upgrades I clearly marked to the corresponding computers I installed them on.

My problem is I cannot remember which copies of my W7 went on which computer. Is there anyway to tell once the upgrade is done which copy of W7 I had on each computer..
I assume I will need both the W7 & the corresponding W8 copy for my new build.

You can do a clean install striaght from Win8 upgrade without Win7,

Even if I am installing my W8pro upgrade on a new build I can do a clean install?
Not sure if the article is saying that or not. It seems to be talking about doing a clean install on the original computer that was upgrade. Not on a new build which is what I want to do.
Then again I could be wrong.
