W800i and bluetooth woes

Hi,

Thought I'd try to use bluetooth to transfer music files to my W800i. I've got a USB bluetooth adaptor. All installed, lovely jubly works a treat with my wife's Nokia 6111.

But...my W800i doesn't seem to want to know! Or should I say, the Sony Ericsson file manager software. I can pair my W800i with my PC without any problems. The PC can find the phone and pair that way, and vice versa, but when I load up the file manager it says not connected.

Any ideas? Surely it's not the bluetooth adaptor as it's currently happily sending some mp3's to my wife's phone.

edit...slight update. i can get it to work the other way. i've sent an MP3 from my phone to my PC, so I know all the hardware is working ok. Perhaps it's the Sony Ericsson software that just doesn't let me transfer files to the phone via bluetooth? I know Disc2Phone only lets you use the USB cable or a card reader for the memory stick.

I have had nothing but problems with the "Sony Ericsson File Manager" software. It randomly uninstalls and disappears and when it does work, also comes up with not connected - and thats when the phone is connected via USB.

Everything else works great though!!

hmm...do you know of any other file management software that will work?

i've downloaded and installed the latest version of SE's PC suite but that doesn't want to know either, although I did manage to get the mobile connect wizard appear.

give floats mobile agent a try at fma.sourceforge.net works great with my k700i, and the k750i that i know of.

tbh i found the software that came with the k700i to be pretty pap.

The File Manager shows my K750 as not connected when I first open it. But double clicking on the Not Connected icon makes the program realise that it is actually connected and works perfectly from then.

You dont need the SE Software if you have a BT Dongle.
Just search, using the BT's software, for the phone, OBEX File Transfer, and you'll be able to browse the phone itself, and the memory card.

But using BT for file transfers is a bad idea, its painfully slow.

I'll give that a go, thanks. I'm wondering whether to reinstall the BT device, but just with the generic drivers?

Yeah, I can't understand why file transfers over BT are so slow on SE phones when they are much quicker with Nokia phones.
It wasnt any faster on my old Nokia.
And unless your Nokia suports BT2.0, along with your computer, i doubt that thats any faster either.

I think this is basically what BoomAM suggested, but to transfer any file, just right click, -->Send To...-->Bluetooth-->Select your phone.

Well transfer between my PC and 8800 is noticable quicker than with my K750i...
Unless theres something wrong with your K750, i kinda doubt the credability of that statement.

Not sure why you would doubt it, but a 750kb file takes around 30 seconds to transfer from phone to PC. 8800 can definitely go faster than this!

Just timed the 8800 and it took 17 seconds to transfer 1.16mb of data, so it is a lot quicker than the K750.

quick update.

i uninstalled the software that came with the BT dongle and plugged it back in so windows installed it's own software and it connected first time, no problems!

thanks for all your help.
