Ok, I have a W900i and I have had Wap working on O2 but never MMS or email.

Last night I tried to get it working and got the settings sent from the Sony Ericsson site.

No luck and it knocked out the WAP.

After backing everything up I did a master reset on the phone to clear all *** settings and then went through steps to install email, mms and WAP vie settings sent from the SE site. Nope not working at all with any of these (SMS still works fine but then it does not use WAP).

Now all that happens when trying to email or browse the web is it says connecting, no internet icon appears (world icon) and then it just says it cannot find server.

It seems like it is not linking the connecting details with any internet functions so it is trying to run the functions without 'dialling up' first.

Any suggestions / solutions. I can quite happily master reset again and is there a specific order you should setup the connectivity (i.s. WAP must be setup then MMS and then email).

Thanks
RB

Strange. I am also with O2 and I just got my w900i. I master resetted and then used the SE site to txt the settings to me. I did MMS first, when I got the message and pressed 'yes' to install. Havent tried that one yet. Then I did WAP. Same process, but that definitely works. Then I did email, it txt the data connection settings and I installed, but for some reason the w900i doesnt setup email account auto setup from a txt, so I got no option to install - just a txt with some meta data in it.

Master reset again then go to SE WAP Configurator here:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp...template=ps1_1_1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10333

And follow the setup process. Install the settings when the txt comes through, then go to:

Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Data Comm -> Data Accounts

And see what has been set up in there. Then post your settings here and I'll tell you if they match mine.

Now a question for you! I am wondering if I am being charged for a call while the internet (world) icon is displayed? Can that be on all the time and I only get charged for the data that is downloaded? What I want is for my emails to be checked automatically every 4 hours and only the headers downloaded so I can see them. Do you know how this should work?

Thanks Nero,

Ok done all that and still not working. Still getting the can't find server error even when just trying WAP.

Ok, back to your query, I believe you only pay for the data downloaded. I have seen no charges on my bill yet but have not watched tv or movies. I was under the impression when you set it up under menu -> messaging -> email -> settings it will connect to the internet every 4 hours and just download the headers. I don't think it will stay connected the whole time and then just connect to the email server every 4 hours as if this was the case why not download in realtime.

Any suggestions very welcome :-).

Cheers

Thanks Nero...

No probs. The only difference I can see in my settings is that in Data Comm -> Preferred Service I have "PS and CS" selected. Try that and then restart your phone and see if it makes a difference. If not, ring O2 (202) and get them to check that gprs is enabled for you account, it may have been disabled for some reason.

Yep, ** right. I rang o2 to confirm. You can stay connected all the time, but only get charged for data downloaded. Also, push email is better than using "Check Interval" because emails get delivered as soon as they are received by the mail server (like sms). Just turn off "Check Interval" then go to Messaging -> Settings -> Push and set Allow push msg: Always. Et voila! Instant Email delivery to your phone! I also set the email account to only download headers so that not too much bandwidth is used via this method.

Ok, that made sense but unfortunately changing it to PS and CS didn't resolve the problem.

Calling O2 resulted in 'All our computers are down can you please ring back tomorrow'.

Hmm have had that far too often when calling

Their comps were down the other day as well! What the hell is going on o2!

The only other things I can think of is:

1.) Is your w900 a vodafone model, or was it a sim-free one?

2.) Are you running the latest firmware? Mine is:

CXC1250057
R5BB001
000000

You can find out yours by going to: Menu -> Settings -> General -> Update Service -> Software version.

The phone was bought in Singapore sim free.

The software versions are the same apart from CXC1250252.

Wap was working until I sms'd the email settings from Sony. My contract has also been renewed and I am now using a new sim card so I am guessing they have not enabled GPRS on the new sim. As O2 do not sell this model yet their customer service was no help.

I guess I need to call them again :( .

Thanks for your help
