Got mine yesterday, has been allright so far. It's on Vodafone, and also been updated via Sony Ericssons Update Service. Have you tried that?

Maybe it could be the firmware making it crash. If that doesn't fix it, return the handset as faulty.
 
what the dude above said, the first batch of them all have the same software fault which causes the phone to say operation failed and crash. download the software update 99% should fix the problem
 
Once you have done a firmware update you might want to do a full reset

Settings | Master Reset | Reset All

Please make sure you backup Contacts / SMS / Images / Music e.t.c Otherwise you will loose everything. This solves the crashes.
