Hi.
For the past few days the controls on my PC have been going proper wacky.
It started with Azureus locking up everytime i used one of the side buttons on my mouse.
And now its escalated to the point where the mouse will jump and inch or so every now and then, and then the keyboard will just stop working correctly, as if someones holding all the arrow keys in!

Ideas?

Are they USB by chance?

I normally see dodgy behaviour from USB mice and kb's when there's either...

a) another USB device thats faulty or problematic connected
b) usb driver issue

Firstly try unplugging 'other' USB devices, see if it helps, if not, try unplugging the mouse, and remove it from the device manager, then plug it back into the same port (or another if you want)... if that doesnt work try reinstalling the USB drivers for your mobo.

If that still doesnt help, post back.

P.S is the mouse in a hub (if its USB) and does the hub (if applicable) have a seperate power supply?

Yes. Both are.

The only other devices connected are a Webcam, that works though.
And whenever im at home, my K800, which frequently has problems, often requiring that i reset my phone just to get windows to recognise it.

All bar the K800 are connected to the USB ports on my mobo, the K800 is connected to the ports on the front of my case, which are directly wired into the mobo.

AFAIK my mobo drivers are the latest, but i'll give them another download and install just to be sure.

Tbh, im wondering if my system just needs nuking and starting over. IIRC, its been running over a year since the last fresh install. But with regular maintenance, its kept its speed and stayed problem free, until now. :(

Right:
I installed the latest nForce4 drivers again, rebooted.
Went to device manager, removed the mouse from there, re-inserted it in another USB port. Did the same for the keyboard.
Rebooted. Reinstalled the Logitech setpoint software. It uninstalled the drivers, then reinstalled some new ones, then the mouse stopped working, so i rebooted, still not working, re-plugged in the mouse, all detected, installed the Logitech stuff again, went through about 10 USB HID device boxes, and evantually, after another reboot, im back to before. Where everything appears to be working.
Lets just hope that this intermittant problem/s doesnt rear its head again.

USB everything these days!.... bound to be a few comflicts/bugs here and there.

Mouse sounds a bit twitchy to me, but you could rule that out by testing it on another PC if possible, same with the k800, test with another PC.

Should narrow down the problem that way.

Havnt been able to test much, but touch wood, the keyboard seems to be working fine.
But the mouse still occasionally jumps, and still crashes Azureus when i use one of the side buttons (assigned to CTRL, Shift & ALT).
Im wondering if this MX1000 has finally given up the ghost?

My MX1000 behaves like that when its reception isn't good enough
Well its been fine all these years. The only thing thats changed lately is 2 new monitors?

By jumping do you mean to one side of the screen?
Its been a known issue for ages, the revolution's suffer too, i was up until recently having a dog of a problem sorting the same thing out. Latest drivers didn't help either...

Not one side to the other, just a few inches to the left.
I moved my reciever to a completely different position and it has slightly helped, but the fact that it wont work through a PS2 port leads me to belive that its on its way out. :(

The problems with the keyboard came back. I unplugged the keyboard as it was doing it, and it still did it. So i slowly started removing programs in task manager till i found out what caused it, turns out that the Logitech software is causing the keyboard error. So i removed all that and its fine.
So a new mouse is needed to fix everything it looks like.

It's a known problem with the MX1000 & USB connection. Sling it in a ps2 connection and it'll be fine. Also set point software is crap. Bin it and use standard MS drivers.
