hello people am thinking of buying the wacom bamboo special edition medium for use with sketchbook and photoshop but i just wanted to check and see if any ocuk members had any thoughts or ideas on wacom products, this would be my first graphics tablet and i can get the medium size for about £160 online, have wacom updated the software for use with Lion yet

To be honest the Bamboo range are great if you want a travel tablet. IE one that will slip inside your laptop bag and just give you a better input device for quick touch ups on location or whatever, but really the only Wacoms worth owning for desktop use are the Intuos range. The pens are miles better for a start, and are comfortable to use for long periods. They're heavier and more ergonomic with rubber grips, and the tablets themselves are just of higher quality and more importantly go bigger (too small a tablet is just a pain if you're matching it up to even a reasonably common desk screen like a 24").

If I were you I'd save a couple more pennies and maybe look at the second hand Intuos 3's on eBay, get the biggest you can afford. They last forever so the fact it's second hand really isn't an issue unless it's been constantly dropped or something.

Otherwise if you're feeling rich the Intuos4 are the cream of the crop (for separate tablets) and well worth every penny in my opinion.

The above advice does depend on how often you plan to use it though. I don't actually have a mouse plugged into my work computer so comfort in use is paramount to me, and I could never use a Bamboo day in day out.

i wouldn't be a heavy user and while i am a good drawer i would say that am not good enough for a Intuos, don't get me wrong i would love one but i don't think i could justify the cost of one to how much i might use them, thanks for the advice can i ask what you use one for ????

Well the other reason I suggest it is because you can easily get as long out of an Intuos (or any Wacom I've ever used come to think of it) as there is still software support for it. If they'll support it for ten years, it'l work for ten years. So the initial cost has always seemed reasonable. With that in mind there is every chance you will buy the Bamboo and replace it with an Intuos as you progress anyway, so I'd just skip the middle man and get the use of the superior product from day 1. That's entirely up to you :) I work as a retoucher, so Wacoms and Photoshop are my bread and butter really!
