I regularly make a batch of waffles, but I have to replace the waffle iron about once a year. I normally buy retail versions, Breville and the like. There seem to be a couple, of distinct designs rebranded with everything from Breville to the random Chinese brands. Over time they seem to take much longer to cook the waffles and eventually aren’t able to get hit enough to cook the batter. The third one has just given up so I’m in the market for something that will last. Getting a used commercial one for eBay crossed my mind but spending £150+ only to find it suffers the same problem has put me off.

Spec me a waffle maker!

The cast iron ones are certainly going to be the most reliable option. It depends how practical and consistent it will be with a batch of 20-30 waffles. I’ll give it a ferocious thinking about.

Still open to hearing experiences with electric versions. It might be a stretch though as the average person doesn’t make as many waffles as I do!

That Kitchenaid looks like the daddy but it looks like they don’t make them any more and any new-old stock are mega money.

The Cuisinart with the 5 year guarantee seems to be worth a punt. I don’t know what it is about waffle makers but pretty much every option has many reviews with reports of failure or performance degradation after a few months. Although after one replacement I don’t think they continue to replace perpetually.

Incidentally, you all wouldn’t like my waffles. No eggs and no dairy. I quite often load them up with protein powder and seeds for a convenient but punchy snack.
