I've been patiently waiting to upgrade my RTX3080 but even with the release around the corner I'm not sure I'm happy to pay more than £1k for a new GPU, so just looking at what the red side offers - The 7900XTX.

Current PC Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
Corsair 64GB DDR4 3600
RTX 3080
Corsair HX1200 PSU

Samsung 49" G9 -5120x1440p

Mainly play FPS and racing games but want to get more into other genres as I've now got rid of PS5 so PC is my only gaming system and want to play games on Ultra quality.

I'm also waiting to upgrade to AM5 (9800x3d) sometime in the new year when stock is available again but would the 7900XTX be sufficient enough for my needs or are the 5XXX nvidia series expected to be marginally better?

Thanks for the feedback fellas, I think the best thing is to wait another month or so.

The question now is, do I upgrade to AM5 :D

I have a similar setup (5800X and RTX3080).

Planning on upgrading to the 7/9800X3D, as that would be a significant upgrade - should also stay relevant for quite some time. Will see what Nvidia announce in Jan; the 5080 will be a decent buy if it's on-par with with 4090.
Yep exactly what I'm keeping an eye out for too.

We're less than a month away from new GPUs targeting your exact budget...

If the 5080 gives same performance of 4090 that's going to be the one I'll be looking to get.
