Wait for 5XXX or 7900XTX?

Agreed - it’s crazy.

I’m very very cheap so when I upgrade, it’s usually the best value option. If I saw a cheap used 7900XT(XX) for sale and want to play games during Xmas and just enjoy the festive season and delayed any purchase of an RTX 50 series by a year, so be it.

It's not like other things that last, ie for AV/stereo (apart from HDMI stuff) a £2000 item will last decades, ie a pair of speakers. You don't mind spending a couple of quid on a PC case as that'll last several PC builds, possibly 20 years if ATX format stays the same.

Cycle continues you buy a £3000 GPU every few years, unable to sell it off for decent amount..compared to things that last so you don't mind spending a couple of thousand
Right but that depends on how much a cheaper GPU depreciates and what your budget is - there’s zero chance I could ever justify a £2300 GPU, even if I could flip it and lose maybe 10%.

I’d rather save up for, oh I don’t know, a house and not pay any depreciation on an expensive toy.

FYI £3000 is roughly 43% the value of my car. That’s crazy.

daft people. My last phone was £150 and it's great. Fast, plenty of storage, big screen, etc.
Yes but the higher tier phones are even faster, faster storage, better screens, bigger batteries etc etc.

Use the same logic with GPUs.

I do agree things are overpriced but nothing we can do about that.

It's already big at 6.81" in fact sometimes it's annoying having a phone that big

Only thing is they stopped updates which is pretty poor, Mogo G9 Plus

Have a look at the LineageOS (and others) for your phone but you'd need to run in rooted mode which banking apps don't like.

I got myself an iPhone 13 Pro which is expensive but I've made a ton of use of all of it's features (especially the camera) and intend on keeping it for a good while so the cost per year is the same as a budget phone.

Funny you mention that I was actually looking at the 5700X3D to replace the 5800X, the switchover would be minimal in £ for me.

Paired with the 3080 at ultrawide 1440p is there going to be a noticeable difference in games like Black Ops 6 / Warzone?

Warzone likes 3D cache a fair bit, you might not see a big increase in FPS but your minimums should see a healthy uplift which will make for a more consistent experience.

We've had a few people over the past year or two make almost identical upgrades and they were very happy.

Looking forward to seeing how it fares up, should have it delivered this afternoon so will share my thoughts.

Will most probably put my 5800X on MM.

It's worth delaying any purchase of the 5000 series, as Nvidia will have the Supers out by then, with more VRAM and likely better performance and also a better price. :)

5700X3D arrived, pretty straight forward swap (putting the TPM malarkey aside)

Instantly noticed a drop in idle temps of almost -12c.

Fired up Black Ops 6 and instantly in menus getting way more frames and even in game it just felt smoother and got a nice 15-20fps gain. Not sure if its placebo effect but the game was buttery smooth it just never stuttered or anything, maybe it's my brain tricking me with placebo.

Nah, that's pretty normal tbh.

It's your minimum frames being higher and more consistent. I went from the 3700X to a 5800X3D on a 4070, did a fair amount of monitoring before and after with the MSI OSD and there's very definitive differences with a lot of games. The extra L3 can do wonders at times.

Thanks - good to know.

What overlay software do you guys use to monitor in game temps of cpu/gpu etc? Or do you just use the built in game ones?
