I'm building a budget system with my son for his homework and do some gaming (Overwatch, World of Tanks etc). Part of the thing is to choose the components and build it together so we're looking at desktops deliberately, not laptops.
Speccing up the machine, I was thinking AMD would be the better bet at this price point. It will have a discrete graphics card (possibly RX580 or 1660 Super), so APU not essential. Looking at the range available and reviews, at around the £160 price point for a CPU, the options would seem to be:
- wait for stock of the 3300x to come along (can't see much stock available at the moment)
- go for a 3400G, although the integrated graphics would be a waste
- see if I can get something from a previous generation, maybe a 2700x, near that price point
- something else I haven't considered?
