Hi i am now ready to purchase and upgrade my old little micra 08 and at first was all set to get an audi a3 sportback but with the announcement of the new tesla model 3.i am now debating whether I should wait and pre order that instead..

Or get the audi now and part exchange it in a year and half's time for the tesla.

Currently you can pre order the tesla for 1k now.
. Thoughts?

Audi A3 etron? Will be a much nicer place to spend your time.

Pre-order for the £1k. Then get another car anyway. By the time you actually get a Tesla 3 you'll either be finished with whatever you get in the meantime (4 year waiting list already), or the value of the car will be significantly higher than list due to the waiting time, or both.

You won't see the Tesla on the streets anywhere near 2017, as has been said.
Get a nice car now, then in 3 years when you are ready to change, Tesla will of started production of the 3 and you will get an idea when it's ready for market.

Is it just me but the bolt and Model 3 look like they are (physically) designed for different market segments.

The Model 3 has that fast, stylish look about it, sort of a cross between an Aston and other premium Marques. The Bolt looks like it's been designed to sell to granny, or the 40 year old librarian.

As much as the Bolt may beat the Model 3 to market, it's just plain ugly and uninspiring and that's a fairly important factor for many when buying a car.

While true, its not going to be a choice between a nice car and an ugly car for most people, its going to be a choice between a car they can buy and a car they can't, and no amount of swish looks can solve that :p

You can get a very nice used car for the price of a new Tesla 3. One that you can get serviced/repaired anywhere and tinker with yourself, unlike an EV.

It's unlikely many people interested in the 3 are remotely interested in modifying it.. As for performance, it'll probably out perform most of the similarly priced used cars in similar segments, at least on the road.
