Wait for the Gigabyte G1 970 or get the MSI 970 Gaming?

I have the Gigabyte and it is fantastic in so many ways:

1. Looks stunning with all metal frame and beautiful backplate, will fit into any colour scheme if you are bothered about that
2. WINDFORCE logo lights up blue LED and can be customised to flash or turned off
3. Very, very solid build quality
4. Silent at stock fan speed, and just a whoosh at 100% fan speed
5. I have mine running 24/7 at 1500 core 8000 mem at stock volts
6. Temp in Firestrike when overclocked only hits 60-62, in BF4 its like 55 max (i'm coming from a 290 which was a warm beast)
7. Higher base clock if you are not overclocking
8. Runs cool and efficient so wont dump as much heat, reducing your other components heat (same for all 970's I guess)

I am sure the MSI is just as good in it's own ways, and I have heard they might be able to get to 6000+ core (I have only got the gigabyte to 1570 without driver crashing, but perhaps that is another variable in my rig)

I believe the MSI is slightly quieter, both at idle and load so that may affect your decision, although the Gigabyte is not loud by any means.

Yeah, well I have a white enthoo luxe with blue lightbar kit on some corsair dominator platinum and was thinking the G1 would look pretty awesome in there. Guessing for sli, the size wouldn't be a major issue since I'm using a Gigabyte z87xoc.

yep, trying my best to be patient and hold off for the Gigabyte, but the MSI is tempting. Main issue i have with the msi is the lack of a backplate. I love backplates.

4. Silent at stock fan speed, and just a whoosh at 100% fan speed

I have the Gigabyte and although it's a great card and not loud by any means it's definitely more than a whoosh at 100% imo.

I think if I could choose again I would probably go for the Asus Strix as it seems to be even more quiet than the Windforce and the heatsink is so good it passively cools up to 67 degrees. That or the MSI but I wish it had a backplate to make it a really good all round card.

Seems a lot of the MSI cards are hitting better OCs as well, or maybe that's just because more people have them in hand because ocuk seem to have sold well over a thousand of them. I've got to 1441Mhz with no crashing which is not too bad.

why would you use it at 100 percent ?

does anyone actually use 100 percent fan profile ? :D

im in similar boat g1 or msi crd not sure.

great msi ocing but the g1 looks a better card on paper.

I'm in the same boat - can't decide what to get. I prefer the look of the G1, and my 670 windforce has served me well.

Reading that RanxZy couldn't get to 1500Mhz at stock voltage is a little disconcerting though considering these cards are apparently cherry picked, and from what I see pretty much all MSI so far seem to be able to do that.

Per guru3d, their sound levels are very similar, while temps of the GBT are lower. I guess it might be the over clocking potential of MSI, as many in OC seem to have purchased the MSI more? Also searching for more feedback on the GBT as I really prefer lower temps due to heat in Asia.

Yeah I get that but I'm just trying to say that as good as the Windforce looks on paper is I think the MSI/Asus cards might be better all rounders if you just want that extra bit of quietness.

The G1 is still a great card and the ability to show so many displays due to the extra ports is cool too for some users.

Also searching for more feedback on the GBT as I really prefer lower temps due to heat in Asia.

If temps are a concern I would recommend the Gigabyte as the only one that will possibly keep temps lower than that will probably be the inno3d Herzulez "Air Boss"

As I say the Gigabyte is not noisy but obviously if the fans are not spinning on the Asus up to 67 degrees it's going to be a little bit quieter idle/light load :p

Naturally the bigger dual 100mm fans on the MSI/Asus spin lower than the smaller triple fans on the Gigabyte.

That will mostly make a difference mainly to the people that want their pc as quiet as possible, but there are not many cards that can keep temps as low as the Windforce.
