I've got a shuttle i use as a DVD and Divx player downstairs and the main PC upstairs

If i want to send any files to the one downstairs i have to go down and turn it on 1st :(

A friend says i can make it start over the LAN (wired).

Can this be done and how?

Not sure how you wake a machine from windows, but from linux i use 'etherwake'. You just specify the MAC address of the machine you want to wake. And no, you don't need the cable, even for most PCI(-e,-X) NICs, they're for very old NICs that don't support PCI 2.2 power specification.

It's an old shuttle (athlon 1.2ghz) can't remember the model but it's in the bios.
