Been trying to get WOL/W working with my new system, need to be able to remotely turn on my pc on from anywhere. Just wondered if anyone here uses WOL/W with an iPhone and could share there knowledge..??

got ports forwarded and have managed to get an app called remote x to turn my pc off on both wifi and 3g, but just cant seem to get it to turn the blooming thing back on.

i am using a BT homehub if thats needed info.

Have you got the machine on a fixed IP address locally? (so your router is always forwarding the stuff to the right machine).

IIRC you need to enable it in the bios, and then in the NIC's properties in device manager (you may need to install additional windows components).

I think I looked at it a long time ago but at the time needed to get a different NIC (IIRC they used to "support" WOL, but cheap cards often needed an additional chip to be fitted).

I have got a fixed ip from dyndns and forwarded the port 9 and 7 . I have ticked the boxes in the network card settings, but I have not done anything in bios.. Bought the pc bundle from overclockers it's an asus board. If I play about with settings will that void my overclock warranty??

I'm no expert but I think routers often don't bother forwarding wol instructions if they think the device is off. People get round this either using a vpn , so you can send the instruction direct, having another device that is on and on the same network send the instruction direct. Or by having a router that provides better wol services like Asus aicloud. Try your bios first though...

A common problem is that after the computer has been off for about 10-15mins the router will "forget" about it so it wont know where to send the WoL request. Some routers allow you to override this setting but only usually via the telnet interface (as it's an advanced feature).

You should Google for setting a "static ARP entry" for your particular router.
