Wake on Wireless LAN in W7 - is it all down to the NIC?

Just wondering if anyone here has successfully gotten WOWLAN working properly in Windows 7.

I have an Asus RT-N66U router and a boggo TP-LINK NIC. I've read a couple of guides that I didn't really understand. One involved editing the registry and I got stuck on that. Another basically said don't bother if your NIC doesn't explicitly support it...well it may not, but if that's the issue then I can buy one that does (and get a 5GHz card into the bargain).

I can't run a network cable to the router as it would involve lifting a lot of newish carpet.

Any help / thoughts gratefully received.

I would suggest powerline adapters but then you may as well buy a new supported NIC. So finding a easier to follow guide may be better.

What's the model of the NIC or link to the guide your trying. May be some one can help translate it in to a easier to follow set of instructions.

I wasn't aware that WOL worked on wireless connections, it's not something I've ever looked into. I use it a lot on my wired LAN though
