wake up on lan

hi all, im pretty sure my mobo supports this (asus p5q pro) and it would be handy to wake it up from other rooms to acess files.

how do i go about doing it? ive read something about a program but its been along time since i did any sort of programming

It's fairly easy to set up, and there are apps that will do it for you.. all you need is the mac address of the machine you want to WoL.

You can get your mac address by typing "ipcongif /all" in a CMD prompt on your p5q machine.

I've got a WoL client for my n95, so can wake my desktop via wireless when I'm near my flat

Any names of apps that can do this? I'd be quite interested myself in doing this.

just google Wake on LAN or Magic Packet. There are literally hundreds of little .exes that will do it.

thanks guys, its been a long day so i will have a look tomorrow and try and get something going. the app on the n95 sounds good, warm it up just before you get home lol
