Wake Up On Modem, Wake On LAN?

One wakes your machine up on a signal from a modem, the other relies on your network card. Clue's in the name.

In this case, modem = 56k modem. The signal comes from the phone line the modem's attached to being rung.

I guessed that, but why would my nice shiny new gigabyte GA-780G-S2H come with Wake On Modem rather than Wake On Lan when I can't remember the last time I saw a modem?

It doesn't have both?

The last time most BIOSs changed fundamentally, modems were all there were. Same reason there's parallel port/serial port/floppy drive options on modern boards too. Obsolescent crud that no one can be bothered clearing out.

I've figured it out - there's a PME option that enables wake up on lan. It's just not very well defined in the documentation. I had to find it on the net. :)
