Waking Monitor from Sleep Mode/Low Power State (Windows 8)

Hi, I'm thinking this is related to screen saver/power saving features of Windows 8.

Basically, I lock my screen and walk away (for a non specific amount of time); When I come back, the monitor will have entered low power state (which is set to happen after just 1 minute by default in Windows 8??). When I try to wake it up, the light changes and the screen lights up as if on a blank screen saver, but no lock screen is displayed.

Nothing seems to fix this other than a hard reboot, after which I may not experience the issue again for several days.

Wondered if anyone has experience this or whether it may be related to my specific set up?

Note: This is not the same as "Turn off the display after" setting in CP. Which is set to longer than 1min.

No OC on CPU. My card is factory over clocked however, could this be it?

So far, I don't get this problem if I allow the computer to lock itself. eg when a screen saver is set with "display lock screen on resume".
