Wall of Mac's.

Maybe the university has some sort of deal with apple if they use macs so much (yes I am just trying to think of ways those pics can be justified :p).

You just know if I had the money I'd have a wall of mac's for the sake of it! :p

...but I'd probably sell them and replace them for the next model each time, so it'll quickly become an expensive wall. :D

The point is... they can. Personally I think its cool. The iMacs are an art statement in their own right.

Ahh if they had drives on the side they're definitely iMacs! Wow that's a lot of moola to spend on that sort of setup :p

The cinema/thunderbolt displays don't look like the newest model iMac. The cinema/thunderbolt display also has speakers on the bottom.

Its good to see the student fees and donations from alumni are being put to good use!!

What university is this??

From what I learned after talking to my gf not one complaint has been made about the use of Mac's throughout the campus. It's a private uni where the students have a big say in where the money goes.

It's won numerous awarded for being one of the 'greenest' uni's in the US with multiple solar panel sites located around the campus. Personally speaking I really liked everything I saw there, especially the library which has been designed to give the students a perfect study environment.

Yeah I've seen that now

What an absolute waste of money - I could understand the back end being macs, maybe even cinema screens as the front end, but actual imacs? /facepalm.

I guess it's how you look at it. The uni has over 1000 Mac's on site so it's not like an extra 20 odd is really going to break the back. Saying that, they may be free or heavily discounted, who knows.

What's this got to do with using Macs??

Many places I have worked at use Macs, especially since the iMacs are very good all in one computers. The comment was directed towards the display not if Macs are being used.

However, spending at least $20000 seems stupid on what could be done cheaper and with lower power consumption using standard displays.

Also,it does not seem very green. Being green is about minimising power consumption in the first place. Also, solar panel production itself requires complex materials. You need to factor in pollution from producing the panels themselves,to gauge the overall effect on the environment.

I'm sure the OP will correct me if Im wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is Loyola Marymount University.

If so, then I have a couple of friends family who have donated pretty heavily to the University in the past, so they are able to also determine where money gets spent and where it doesn't. I know at Loyola Marymount, around 90% of them have been giving to the Uni from Apple, so the only guys guilty of wasting money, would be Apple. However....I think they can afford it.

The thing is, out here in California, apple supple the majority of the Universities here with an abundance of apple computers and equipment. One reason being, the amount of graduates they end up taking straight out of Universities here is pretty large, so for them, if anything, its an investment. Also, the age range of University goers, is pretty much one of the largers demographics Apple aims at. Therefore, if you surround students with all the apple equipment they can get their hands on, and have them using it daily, what are they more likely to buy for their personal computer? It makes pretty good sense really.

Even though this Uni, and intact most here are all trying to aim to be greener, and the majority of which has multiple solar units, as well as buying a certain % of renewable energy, I think one of the comments above is right. Being 'green' isn't trying just trying to offset the amount of energy you use, by supply all that energy from renewable sources. Over indulgence like this wall, could hardly be considered green. However...as also said, when you have well over 1000 computers being used 24 hours a day, as well as the majority of students on a campus having laptops and personal computers plugged in when not in a library. The cost of running 20 more hardly factors in.

probably some sort of advertising deal. a few iMacs stuck on a wall costs nothing to apple but potentially millions of people will see them (through the web)

its like when you always see macs on tv. I'm 90% sure apple post the production company promo's or free dummy units
