I'm sure the OP will correct me if Im wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is Loyola Marymount University.
If so, then I have a couple of friends family who have donated pretty heavily to the University in the past, so they are able to also determine where money gets spent and where it doesn't. I know at Loyola Marymount, around 90% of them have been giving to the Uni from Apple, so the only guys guilty of wasting money, would be Apple. However....I think they can afford it.
The thing is, out here in California, apple supple the majority of the Universities here with an abundance of apple computers and equipment. One reason being, the amount of graduates they end up taking straight out of Universities here is pretty large, so for them, if anything, its an investment. Also, the age range of University goers, is pretty much one of the largers demographics Apple aims at. Therefore, if you surround students with all the apple equipment they can get their hands on, and have them using it daily, what are they more likely to buy for their personal computer? It makes pretty good sense really.
Even though this Uni, and intact most here are all trying to aim to be greener, and the majority of which has multiple solar units, as well as buying a certain % of renewable energy, I think one of the comments above is right. Being 'green' isn't trying just trying to offset the amount of energy you use, by supply all that energy from renewable sources. Over indulgence like this wall, could hardly be considered green. However...as also said, when you have well over 1000 computers being used 24 hours a day, as well as the majority of students on a campus having laptops and personal computers plugged in when not in a library. The cost of running 20 more hardly factors in.
