Wall Socket - Fibre Wiring???

Just moved house and tried to transfer my fibre over. Long story short, OpenReach and PN have made laods of mistakes and I still don't have internet up (3 weeks since I started the move order, 2 weeks since 1st appointment).

An engineer did come on the 13th, but when I got home it turns out only the phone line was installed and the socket and had no DSL port on it.

So...next appointment to fit that is 6th January!!! Nowhere near good enough for me but despite many complaints they are all idiots so nothing is getting done. Everytime I contact them I get different info. :o

Went over to my other property and removed the fibre socket from the wall.

Question: Anyone know how to wire this up in the new property? I'm told by Plusnet the broadband is set up, on at the exchange and ready to go - it's just that the enigneer didn't install the damn socket when he came.

Ther eis a blue wire, a red wire and another one wired up to the current phone line socket. There is also an orange, a green and a couple more not connected to anything.
I have the fibre DSL socket faceplate that slots over the top but I assume those wires need connecting up for fibre to work.

Any ideas?

It's not fibre wiring.... it's a standard phone socket. Fibre is at the cabinet side not to the home. (If you are in the UK and a standard home owner).

Take a picture of your said problems and kit please.

Ah OK then fair enough. I checked the wiring at other property and there was only 2 wires so thought it might work just putting that faceplate onto mine.

I'm at work right now but only live 5 mins away so will pop home at lunch time and take pics.

Yep just putting a faceplate onto your new property should work fine. It only has to be filtered somewhere.

I presume you're talking about FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet), have you actually tried connecting your VDSL modem up? as most filters are generally suitable for both ADSL & VDSL (not always though)...

You need to locate your master socket, If you've got an NTE5 box (e.g. BT Master socket) you shouldn't need to touch the wiring behind the removable part of the faceplate, it should just be a case of plugging the VDSL faceplate over the top of the NTE5 socket & punching down any phone extensions to the "new" faceplate (use a proper punchdown tool)

As part of a FTTC install, BT Openreach will need to re-jumper your line to the fibre cabinet, so if this hasn't been done you won't get a sync from the cabinet

The VDSL filter should look something like this :

I'll put some pics up shortly, gonna pop home now.
Basically the DSL light on the OpenReach modem doesn't come on.

I hope it IS switched on at the exchange, they say it is but there CS seem pretty useless to be honest. Kept being told I'd get an expedited appointment, then 1 final person said they don't do this as it costs £180. Hadn't put the phone down 5 seconds and got a text saying suppliers are offering expedited appointment FOC and to choose some dates.

I replied just saying ANY date, next available but nothing back yet. I can live without internet for most things but me and the wife both study through OU and are very busy so not having it for that is a major risk. Fingers crossed I can do something myself with some advice then!

The visible wiring presumably just goes to an extension socket?

If you've inserted the VDSL filter that'll be as much as you can do. If it still isn't working then you'll need to wait for BT to finish their work in the street.

From what I can see, that's your master socket.

The blue, orange & blue/white will be the wiring for an extension socket so for now can be discarded for now

From the home side of wiring you should just need to place the VDSL filter in and then plug the lower half of the face plate back in (reconnecting the extension wiring)

If you still get no sync, it's pretty safe to say you haven't been connected to the fibre cabinet in the street (this will be a job for BT i'm afraid as it requires a physical attendance)

If I were you I'd just put the VDSL filter in place and put everything back together as there's not a lot you can do

OK well thanks for the input guys.
So basically I have to wait weeks for them to recify a problem they took weeks to create.

Even though there is a guy at the damn cabinet nearly every day so why they can't just stick mine in for the same time I have no idea. I even seen an Openreach engineer sitting in his van outside my door for an hour the other day doing nothing and one of them lives like 5 doors up from me.

No idea why they couldn't just do both at once.

Hi I am in the same boat.

Booked my home move for the 9th Dec (over 2 weeks notice). OR man turned up, plugged things in. Had to go off, came back. Told us you are routed the wrong way, you should b coming on the box on the left. but your coming down the box on the right. You will need to contact your supplier. So I ring PN, it will take 48 hours to get you rerouted, then we can arrange an OR engineer to come out. Thursday came I know we was rerouted as I had seen the OR man up the pole. But no Call from PN, so I rang them. Got a booking for the Monday 16th. OR man turns up only to be just the phone line man. Phone line is fine. lol

So I ring PN back and am told that my fibre appointment is on the 23rd. (so much for me being a priority). Yesterday I get a text confirming my appointment on the 23rd. Not a minute later another text saying too ignore the last message as it has not been conformed with OR.

So I have to wait to see if I get a text today, if not Bye bye PN.

What a total joke 5 weeks for a home move.

I feel your pain like. PN have been great as far as speeds and connection stability etc go for me but it seems when you have to use their customer services then that's where it all falls apart.

I managed to get mine sorted out yesterday after being given the appointment for the 6th Jan. I got it expedited.
The OR guy phoned me and told me he was doing the work at the exchange (I had been told this was done already by PN, hence this thread but whatever...). Then he came over and realised I already had all the equipment so could have done that part myself. Again, something I told PN as I knew getting the time off to be at home for the engineer would be hard so I brought all the equipment from the last property.

1 thing that could help you - have you at ANY point been told it would be expedited?
I've had PN tell me that they don't do this - but many of their CS reps tell customers anyway it seems. (probably to get you off the phone). But all these calls are recorded. I asked the rep to get a supervisor to listen to a previous call as I took down the guys name. This took 24 hours, but the very next day they expedited my appointment for that afternoon.

So if you have been told that, it could be worth mentioning.

We have an appointment tomorrow the 23rd.

I was originally told I would not have to wait after the first appointment. But every time I said it to the reply. No one said it could be done.

The OR engineer is not leaving till its working. I don't care if I have to cook him Christmas dinner on Christmas day. Lol
