Water is coming from behind the plug socket in the kitchen, what the hell?!

I have shut off power to the kitchen ring and the cooker. Should I shut off power to the whole flat?

Called the landlord but no answer.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am still alive!

Are there any other sockets that side of the wall?

Yes there are. One more. We have decided not to use them. We decided to turn the kitchen ring on since the water stopped and leaving it off would mean the freezer would have defrosted and poured more water everywhere. Of course we are not using those sockets or the kitchen in general.

Do the ceilings look wet/damp?

Yes, in the next room a brown patch has appeared on the ceiling.

Any way of looking at the outside wall behind this socket - is there a noticable wet patch on the wall.

Good question, that would be in the flat next door, we could ask.

Do you have a neighbour below? Might be worth giving them a shout too as it's more than likely water will have dripped down below too.

No, we are on the bottom floor. We went to the flat above but they are not aware of any issues, since the problem is inside the walls.

So this morning we contacted the landlord and management company, as well as the owners of the flat above. They were rightly concerned and will be sending people round today to have a look.

This was quite concerning and I did lose some sleep over it. When you call the landlord at 10pm for an emergency and both him and the "out of hours" number you phone for the managing agent don't pick up, you feel very stuck.

An update on the situation: a plumber came yesterday to look at the upstairs flat and found a crack underneath their sink. In the meantime water patches have appeared on our ceiling. The management company is quibbling about the cost of sending an electrician over to make sure our flat is safe. As far as I see it is their responsibility to pay for this, not ours, and have told them such.
