Wall socket slow usb ports

That's 10 Watts, so yes it will be slow in comparison with modern chargers, which are 20W, 35W, or even more. Fast charging requires a minimum of 20W.

Yup if it says 5v 2amp that'll be the maximum it'll do, and it might only be supplying 1 amp per USB outlet if it's got two (IIRC some brands share it).

Actual wall sockets with USB charging points seem to lag behind standalone devices in terms of power output by a fair bit, I suspect due to both the limited space so it's harder to cram in a higher output PSU and the need to get them certified slightly differently (as fixtures rather than plug ins).

[edit]
Built in chargers are there basically for convenience rather than speed.

You can find units that do Quick Charge 4.0.and Power Delivery 4. This will charge Samsung, iPhone and others at high speed. But it depends what you mean by slow? Have you confirmed it's not a very long/poor quality cable causing the issue?
Hi, the cable is this and states fast charge so I thought it would be ok? [MFi Certified] Lightning Cable Nylon Fast Charging & Sync iPhone Charger Compatible with iPhone 13/12 /11 /Pro/Max/XR/XS/X /10/8 /7 /Plus/SE /2020 -Grey

They’re pretty much a waste of time.

Amazing in theory but just garbage in reality. They take ages to charge my tooth brush.

It’s not the cable it’s the slow charger.

Get one of these - https://www.anker.com/uk/products/a2038?ref=naviMenu&variant=41992873869476

Or this if you just want to charge one phone at a time

Yeah they're very slow, we've got a few around the house.

I use the one in the bedroom as it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as my phone is charged in the morning but they're no good for a quick top up.

I’m finding my double power socket the electricians installed is very slow to charge my iPhone. It says 5V 2A? - is this the best it can do?

We have quite a few, still very useful - the kitchen ones get used overnight or whilst cooking etc. The others get used for phones or smart watches. They're not charged in an hour etc like my 30W usb-c but batteries do take time to get a full charge anyway (most quick charge but not to full capacity). I find my watch battery charge lasts longer if I leave it on the slow charger for 12-24 hours even when it says it's charged, then it will go for several weeks vs a week or less if you believe the charge indicator.

I've just had a gander at Screwfix and they only go up to 4.2A
4.2A is huge.

More importantly though it's not the current that will create fast charging it's the protocol. You need the charger to communicate with the device and negotiate higher voltages and currents hence PD and QC.

You can't just shove current up em :D

Yeah i think its mostly about the protocol, like i said the one i use is rated at 2amp but i think it's probably only charging at 500ma as if i use my phone while it's plugged in it doesn't charge at all and must take a good 5+ hours to fully charge.

But again as i leave it overnight it's not an issue.

so am I barking the wrong tree here with this one?

It has PD and QC - I know BG do a couple of series - 80x and 90x maybe? That support QC4 and PD. Let me dig them out...

Right, 30W PD and white or steel:

My unpopular opinion in a previous thread is how these usb sockets are total E waste. Utter junk that doesn't need to exist.
FWIW I spent AGES finding the right sockets (above model) while planning my rewire and I have yet to actually buy them for this reason ^

They won't match my carefully chosen sockets and switches, and ultimately sockets and charging bricks are cheap and plentiful. Having a box built into the wall that might melt or fail, and then needs rewiring, not so appealing. So I probably won't go with them in the end.
