Posting this on my new 24" imac
There is a new apple store in belfast and it made the whole purchase experience... fantastic.
Pretty standard spec...
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
4GB RAM
ati 2600pro
applecare

harman/kardon soundsticks II (looks great, sounds great)

Been playing with it this evening... some adventures:

-how to unrar. unrarx obviously.
-getting xvid playing with quicktime. found something called perian, could not use the xvid delegate (no video). all sorted now
-finding cpu usage (ahem, no such thing as task manager lol). Activity monitor. nice
-getting my blackberry paired and able to send a file (so you guys can see more mac pr0n).
-also managed to lose the dock when messing around with spaces. lol thought i had broken it!

picture

Quite happy and intrigued, remembering how i felt when first playing with windows.

Thanks for everyones advice on my previous thread... i'll drop any questions i have in here.

Next adventure... finding what speed my imac is connecting to my wireless network...

Doubt they would release new iMacs a fortnight after the new MacBooks

EDIT - mac rumours says 'Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle' so new ones are on the horizon, but I'd imagine towards the end of the year.

Exactly why i'm waiting. If i manage to NOT buy a Macbook before then! I think we can all assume the new iMac will have the new nVidia chipsets in them as well as CPU tweaks :o

Assuming last minute snags are avoided, the coming weeks could bring new iMacs for the holiday season, according to AppleInsider.

AppleInsider notes that their "2008 hardware roadmap -- published back in August and reprinted below -- has thus far panned out quite nicely, clearing the way for new iMac models to edge their way to market sometime in the next four weeks."

"People familiar with the company's plans have said changes to the iMac family will largely consist of performance improvements and technology refreshes. And while there's admittedly been few concrete details to go by since the August report, this week's notebook overhauls offer a window into the future of the iMac line, which sports an architectural resemblance to the MacBook lines."

Yeah, I saw the rumors. TBH I decided the current spec was enough for me.

Right time and place and all that.

2 Quick questions.

1) Applecare - do i need to register this? Any way of checking it is assigned to my machine?

2)I have a few thousand WMAs. All ripped from CDs. In order to convert to AAC do I need to use iTunes in windows for this?

Cheers

The machine will already be registered to Applecare by serial number, it's worth opening the box though as you get a bit of software in there, TechTool, which is reasonably handy :)

As for converting all your WMAs, you may find doing it in Windows quicker and easier but there is a free converter I've used before that I forget the name of, I've also heard from several people this Switch ( http://www.nch.com.au/switch/ ) does it quite nicely and for free too

Thats freaky dude, looking at the name on that web page in your pic (Scott Morgan). It's the name of a mate of mine that uses these boards. Woooooo

By the way, i'm also the proud owner of 2 weeks of the same spec iMac.

I've seen the future and it is apple shaped!!!!! :D :D

I was on Scott's page to find out how 'busy' the processors were - when you are M$ trained this required me to ask saint google to find out.

TBH I have found spotlight (apple key + space) invaluable when looking for programs

Currently using the previously mentioned switch program to convert my WMAs to MP3.

Congrats, i have the same spec iMac here and have been loving it for a little over 2 months now...... I am now anti Windows...... and i NEVER thought i would say that!
